Leading Projector Manufacturers to Use Color Light Output to Highlight Projector Color Brightness
TOKYO --(Business Wire)-- Jan 26, 2009
|
3LCD,
Since January 2008, the 3LCD Business Center has promoted the use
of Color Light Output, a measurement proposed by Lumita,
a US company, to indicate the brightness of a projectors color
images. The aim of the Business Center has been to accurately
inform users of their projectors color performance, and has
accordingly promoted the disclosure of Color Light Output
measurements in materials such as product catalogs and websites.
|
|
The 3LCD Business Center today announced that leading projector
manufacturers Epson and Sony were to begin disclosing Color Light
Output measurements in product catalogs, websites, and other
materials.
|
|
Going forward, the Business Center plans to further promote the use
of Color Light Output.
|
Color Light Output accurately defines the color performance of any
projector in contrast to conventional brightness or light output
specifications, which only measure the performance of a projectors
white light output. Color Light Output will be listed in materials to
give users a more accurate picture of their projectors performance.

With the fast-paced development of high-definition, rich color video and
projection content, the quality and impact of the color produced by a
projector has become extremely important. To date, buyers and users have
had no way to determine if their projector is capable of producing rich,
vivid color. Color Light Output addresses this issue and provides an
important picture quality indicator for classrooms, conference rooms and
living rooms.
About
Color Light Output
Color Light Output is a metric that measures a projectors ability to
deliver color. Developed by Lumita in the US in December 2007 using the
same approach as white light output (brightness) measurement, Color
Light Output provides a simple, accurate and easy-to-understand way to
evaluate a projectors color performance.
Why is Color Light Output important?
Color Light Output is critically important because color is a key
indicator of picture quality. In-depth market research by TFC
Associates*, a leading projector market research firm, clearly shows
that picture quality is the most important factor when choosing a
projector. Color Light Output provides users with a way to evaluate a
projectors color performance in order to make better buying decisions.

How to measure Color Light Output
Three RGB color patterns are divided into nine separate areas. The
luminance of the nine areas is then measured for each pattern, and an
average value taken for each of the patterns. Finally, the Color Light
Output is calculated by adding the average values of the three patterns.
