iPhone MMS Support to Ignite A2P Multimedia Messaging Demand, Predicts Leading MMS Service Provider

Improved MMS Interoperability, Enhanced MMS Features and Now iPhone Support Expected to Boost A2P MMS Demand From Marketers, Advertisers and Content Providers

BOSTON --(Business Wire)-- Mar 17, 2009 Following Apple's announcement today that the iPhone OS 3.0 will support MMS, Rich Eicher, founder and CEO of Skycore LLC, a leading application-to-peer (A2P) MMS service provider, predicted a surge in A2P MMS campaigns from mobile marketers, advertisers and content providers.

"All along, interest in A2P MMS has been growing rapidly. With Apple's announcement today, the A2P MMS flood gates will soon open - not only to the iPhone but across all handsets and carriers as well. The timing of the announcement couldn't be better because it coincides with improvements in A2P MMS interoperability and our enhanced platform features for MMS deployment," said Eicher.

Skycore delivers messaging and content primarily using MMS since nearly every phone launched during the past several years has been MMS enabled – notably excluding the iPhone. Skycore had to develop a work-around for the iPhone where, instead of an MMS, it would deliver content using SMS with Web links.

One of the major drawbacks of SMS is its 140-160 character message limit. Alternatively, MMS enables messaging thousands of characters, including hyperlinks, along with images, audio and video.

"With the iPhone supporting MMS, marketers will be able to push a ubiquitous, rich, multimedia experience directly to the inbox. And although SMS is currently ubiquitous and less expensive than MMS, the gap is closing and experienced mobile marketers are starting to integrate MMS into their upcoming campaigns," added Eicher.
