BoPaul Scoring Big With

Ray Harryhausen Doc Sales

In U.S., UK, France, Australia

Los Angeles – (Virtual Press Office) -- Heading into its second anniversary as a distribution company specializing in classic films, BoPaul Media Worldwide (BMW) is bursting with sales for its recently-produced documentary film on the life of iconic stop-motion animator Ray Harryhausen featuring Steven Spielberg and James Cameron among other notable, influenced filmmakers.

The film will make its official MIPTV sales debut on BMW's stand #14.30 in Cannes, France, April 8-11, 2013.

"Ray Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan" has been licensed recently to Sony Movie Channel in the U.S.; BBC in the UK; Rimini Editions in France; and Umbrella Entertainment in Australia/New Zealand.  The film was critically-acclaimed by British reviewers in its theatrical debut last November in London.

In addition to the 90-minute film, the producer, Arrow Films, and the Harryhausen Foundation have created five hours of behind-the-scenes features, including expanded interviews with some of the other dozen or so filmmakers who were inspired by Harryhausen's pioneering work.  BMW will be offering this bonus material as part of the package in its worldwide sales pitches.

In the film, Spielberg says of Harryhausen, "He is the father of all we do today in science fiction, fantasy, and adventure."   Cameron adds, "When I was a kid, I'd see a Harryhausen film and for the next five weeks I would draw my own comic books and do my own version of Ray's work.  I did this for a long time (with all of his films)."

Leaving no doubt as to Harryhausen's seminal influence on modern-day special effects, the documentary features enlightening and entertaining interviews with the man himself, Randy Cook, Peter Jackson, Nick Park, Phil Tippet, Terry Gilliam, Dennis Muren, John Landis, Guillermo Del Toro, in addition to Cameron, Spielberg, and many more. These filmmakers, who today push the boundaries of special effects movie-making, pay tribute to the grandfather of stop motion animation and creator of films such as "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms", "It Came From Beneath The Sea", "The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad", "Mysterious Island", "Jason And The Argonauts" and "The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad"; the films that enthralled them as children and inspired them to become filmmakers in their own right.

The interviews are combined with archival footage and contemporary clips  of not only Harryhausen's films but also those of his "pupils"  including Cameron's and Spielberg's timeless, blockbuster features from "Avatar" to "E.T.", plus behind-the-scenes footage, stills, original drawings, and recently-discovered, unseen takes of tests and experiments. The filmmakers were granted unprecedented access to film all aspects of The Ray Harryhausen Collection including models, artwork, and miniatures, as well as Ray's private study, where he designed most of his creations, and his workshop where he built them.
