CookieZen Expands Their Critically Acclaimed Cookie Line
Gluten-free cookies to be unveiled at the 2013 Summer Fancy Food Show – Booth 4902

FALLS CHURCH, Va. - (Virtual Press Office) -- Although many who know Leah Kuo and Laura Englander think of them as the perfect pair as business partners, they call themselves a “dynamic duo”. As president, Leah’s leadership and her culinary creativity especially in Pastry Arts are the perfect complement to vice president Laura’s passion and extensive experience in sales and marketing. Combined, these women have not only founded a company with a unique brand identity, but they are carving a niche of their own in the gourmet cookie business and entertaining world.

CookieZen LLC is the result of two energetic businesswomen who discovered they have entrepreneurship in common. They met as moms at their children’s playgroup and it didn’t take long for them to learn their ambitions to be entrepreneurs were similar. Leah’s culinary creativity and Laura’s savvy marketing skills became the perfect pairing.

CookieZen, the gourmet cookie company, was born with two mothers. It rapidly grew into Cookies & Corks® when inspiration struck Laura to pair their cookies with wine as a way to make the cookies stand out. Always up for a challenge, Leah got out the mixing bowl and they started crafting sweet and savory cookies using only the finest ingredients like rosemary, sea salt, lemon and bittersweet chocolate. The use of kosher salt and lowered sugar levels helps to highlight the flavors.

Their goal is to enlighten and introduce more people to the experience of cookie and wine pairing. It’s a fun, fabulous way of learning how to pair food with wine. Wine experts, food lovers and everyone in between have raved about the cookie and wine pairings. The easy to use guide on the side of their revamped packaging being unveiled at the show this summer is the perfect starting point for selecting your favorite wine, beer or cocktail pairing. They look great in gift baskets, on the shelf, or displayed for a special event.

Soon after, consumers started requesting a simple way to enjoy the cookies as a snack or treat for their kids. In September of 2012, Leah and Laura launched CookieZen Bites™, four count grab-n-go packs of their two most popular flavors: Zesty Lemon and Sea Salt Chocolate Oatmeal. As a company, they also began to see an increase in demand for gluten-free products, and since many of their closest friends have challenges due to gluten it only made sense to offer gluten-free cookies using their formula of matching perfectly balanced flavors with clean ingredients. The result? Tasty gluten-free mini bites in Sea Salt Chocolate Chip and Apricot Sage that everyone will enjoy!

Leah and Laura also teach wine and cookie pairing classes, donate their time and resources to charities in the Washington DC area, and are always seeking ways to be socially responsible such as using eco-friendly packaging and donating a percentage of their profits to charities that have connections to persona experiences.

Today, the growing company of Cookies & Corks products can be found in scores of retailers across the U.S. and in Canada, including Whole Foods Markets and online at Amazon.com.

Cookies & Corks’ sweet and savory cookies for wine pairing come in a 7.5 ounce box containing fifteen cookies which retails for $7.95. CookieZen Bites are available both in gluten (four cookies in each 2 ounce pack) and gluten-free versions (5.5 ounces per box). Bulk cookies are also available for private label, foodservice and events.
