SAN ANTONIO, June 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Atlas Learning unveiled LiveSlide, an interactive learning application designed to replace interactive whiteboards (IWBs) in the classroom. The app will be available on virtually any device with a modern browser.
LiveSlide has groundbreaking real-time features, such as annotation between teachers and students, pinpoint quizzing, and note-taking capabilities. Students can even replay a lesson at any time for study and review.
"LiveSlide is unlike any tool teachers have seen before; it brings learning to life in a 1:1 or BYOD classroom and provides an ideal start for those schools that may only have a laptop and projector for each teacher," CEO Rich Warwick said. "It offers an unparalleled experience and promotes levels of participation that an IWB could never achieve."
Rich adds, "There is no reason why any school should purchase another IWB after today. Almost every school district has budget set aside for IWB hardware and each can now have an 85% cost reduction and enjoy a more engaging learning experience." A tablet, laptop, or Chromebook running LiveSlide is only about one-seventh of the cost of an IWB installation.
Increased interaction in the classroom is critical to boost student success. Mobile devices facilitate this process and help students retain 75%-90% of their material, compared to 10% in traditional teaching (source: Motorola University). "LiveSlide is so interactive that it could significantly reduce the dropout rate," said an Atlas pilot teacher at Bastrop ISD in Bastrop, Texas.
In addition, LiveSlide offers device-independent presence detection capabilities to keep students on task in a 1:1 or BYOD environment. Mobile device distraction is the #1 challenge for teachers to teach effectively (Pew Internet Project, Nov. 2012).
LiveSlide is a free application and will be released in August for all platforms. LiveSlide Plus contains premium features and is priced from $2 to $4 per user per year, depending on the number of subscribers in the school district. Teachers can register to receive LiveSlide at https://atlaslearning.net/liveslide. Those who register in the next 30 days will receive a 90-day Free Trial to LiveSlide Plus.
