…. come have a Real taste of the Caribbean

For immediate release

June 25, 2013:- Participating for the very first time in the Summer Fancy Food Fair, Carib Brewery is one of eight manufacturers forming part of the ‘Trinidad and Tobago Pavilion’. Led by Mr. Sheldon Wood, Export Director and Ms. Monique Brackett, Regional Export Manager, Carib Brewery’s participation will include booth sampling of its products, namely the world renowned Carib beer and Shandy Carib.

The brewing of beer in Trinidad and Tobago is based on European tradition and was inherited by the British. Although there had been legislation in place to regulate brewing from as early as August 1899, the first commercial brewery was not established until just after World War I by a Mr. Walters. In September 1950, Caribbean Development company Limited (CDC) launched its own beer in Trinidad – Carib beer – forever changing the local beer landscape. In 1957, CDC acquired the brewing plant and interests of Walters Brewery, adding its brands to an expanding range and becoming the sole brewer and bottler of beer and stout in Trinidad & Tobago. In 1985, the range of Shandy Carib was launched in an effort to capitalize on the popular custom of mixing beer with flavours.

Expansion of the brewery in 1983 was undertaken to facilitate the increasing local demand, as well as satisfying the growing export demand for the product. The acquisition/introduction of new brands and line extensions were developed and launched over time, moving the company from one pinnacle of success to another. As a result of its strength in the local market, strategic partnerships with major International Companies have been formed, allowing for the local production and distribution of major brands such as Guinness, Ginseng Up and Smirnoff Ice, and also Heineken International B.V. for the distribution of Heineken both locally and regionally.

Today, CDC, popularly known as Carib Brewery Limited, continues to dominate the Trinidad and Tobago malt beverage industry, with dominant beer brands - Carib and Stag; its stout brands - Mackeson and Royal Extra Stout; and its low and non-alcoholic portfolio of brands - Malta Carib, Smalta and Shandy Carib. These brands continue to grow in popularity and sales have now expanded to twenty-nine (29) countries globally. From within the Caribbean Region including Guyana to as far away as Greece, Carib Brewery’s products are exported every day, enjoyed by Caribbean Nationals, and those who just want a taste of the Real Caribbean. With exports growing at over 70% since 2006, CDC recently upgraded its brewing capacity in 2012 with the addition of three (3) new tanks. This ensures that consumer’s world-wide will be enjoying CDC products at the highest quality standards for many years to come.
