Bluegiga renews its module and software product portfolio to support iOS
27 February 2012, Mobile World Congress, Barcelona - (Virtual Press Office
) - In the end of 2011 Bluegiga Technologies introduced a new reference implementation of its BLE112 Bluetooth 4.0 single mode low energy platform allowing companies to quickly create Bluetooth 4.0 accessories compatible with Apple’s iPhone 4S. Now Bluegiga continues to renew its existing product portfolio by introducing next generation Bluetooth software to ensure the end-to-end compatibility with iOS.
Bluegiga Technologies releases the 5th generation of the iWRAPTM Bluetooth stack, targeted for Bluegiga’s Bluetooth BR/EDR modules. Enhancing the compatibility with iOS, the iWRAP5 adds new industry leading features such as Apple iAP support for Apple accessory and Hands-Free Profile v.1.6 with Wide Band Speech codec. In addition, Bluegiga iWRAP5 offers Continua 1.5 support for the Health Device Profile, advanced HID support, and more than 20 other new features and improvements for supporting overall Bluetooth ecosystem.
The new iWRAP5 firmware is mainly targeted for applications like Apple accessories, health and wellness sensors, stereo and mono audio products, also bringing new features and benefits to all Bluetooth application developers.
The new iWRAPTM Bluetooth stack implements two important iAP elements: Firstly it can directly interface to the Apple authentication co-processor and perform the initial authentication during the Bluetooth connection establishment. Secondly, iWRAP also implements the iAP protocol required to exchange data with iOS applications. This makes creation of iOS compatible accessories an extremely fast and easy process. With iWRAPTM communication between your accessory and App is transparent, regardless of the mobile platform.
The iWRAPTM Bluetooth stack also continues to support 12 other interoperable Bluetooth profiles such as: SPP, A2DP, AVRCP, PBAP, HFP, HSP, HID and OBEX, allowing accessory manufacturers to create more versatile devices.
For audio applications iWRAP5 adds support for 5th generation CVC echo and noise cancellation algorithm and aptXTM codec for Hi-Fi quality A2DP audio.
The new iWRAP5 firmware is available for Bluegiga’s WT12, WT11i, WT41 and WT32 Bluetooth BR/EDR modules and can be deployed to existing products as a firmware upgrade. iWRAP5 beta is now available at http://www.bluegiga.com/support
. The official, certified version of iWRAP5 will be available by June 2012.

About Bluetooth wireless technology
Bluetooth wireless technology is the global short-range of wireless standards for personal connectivity from a wide range of electronic devices. The technology is now available in its fourth version of the core specification and continues to develop, building on its inherent strengths -a small-form factor radio, low power, low costs, built-in security, strength, accessibility, and ad hoc networking abilities. The installed Bluetooth devices were over one billion products at already the end of 2006, making it the only well-known choice for developers, product manufacturers, and consumers worldwide.
