OriginOils Breakthrough Algae-to-Oil Technology Featured Nationally on CNN
LOS ANGELES --(Business Wire)-- Feb 27, 2009
OriginOil, Inc. (OTCBB:
OOIL), the developer of a breakthrough technology to transform
algae, the most promising source of renewable
oil, into a true competitor to petroleum, announced that the company
was featured on CNNs television segment called “Energy Fix” on February
26. The segment, hosted by CNN anchor Poppy Harlow, aired nationally on
multiple occasions and featured OriginOils breakthrough algae-to-oil
technology and algaes potential to replace petroleum.
Anchor Harlow reported on the multi-phase
partnership OriginOil announced recently with the Department of
Energys Idaho National Laboratory.
The segment can be viewed on OriginOils home page at www.originoil.com
and, for the next two years, on CNNs
Money.com site.
In the interview, OriginOil CEO Riggs Eckelberry explained that algae is
a third generation biofuel feedstock. First generation biofuel was based
on food crops such as corn and sugarcane. Second generation, such as
cellulosic ethanol, is not based on food crops but still uses lots of
land and water. The third generation doesnt need farmland, can use
dirty water, is not a food crop, grows very fast, and loves CO2.
Eckelberry concluded by saying that algae is the prime candidate for
what we need in this country for biofuels.
In response to the CNN televised broadcast, Eckelberry said, “We are
thrilled that a premiere and influential international medium like CNN
has chosen to feature OriginOil and underscore the promise of algae as
an alternative to petroleum. We are extremely happy to have worked with
Ms. Harlow to educate CNNs viewers on algae as the most promising third
generation biofuel.”
About OriginOil, Inc.
OriginOil, Inc. is developing a breakthrough technology that will
transform algae, the most promising source of renewable
oil, into a true competitor to petroleum. Much of the world's oil
and gas is made up of ancient algae deposits. Today, our technology will
produce "new oil" from algae, through a cost-effective, high-speed
manufacturing process. This endless supply of new oil can be used for
many products, such as diesel, gasoline, jet fuel, plastics and
solvents, without the global warming effects of petroleum. Other
oil-producing feedstock, such as corn and sugarcane, often destroy vital
farmlands and rainforests, disrupt global food supplies and create new
environmental problems. Our unique technology, based on algae, is
targeted at fundamentally changing our source of oil without disrupting
the environment or food supplies. To learn more about OriginOil, please
