TELESTE AT IBC2012 STAND 4.C72: FAST LANE TO OTT
Over-the-Top delivery (OTT) has taken the TV industry by storm. As content owners now have a direct connection to consumers, the role of cable operators is in jeopardy. OTT presents a huge challenge especially to small and mid-sized European cable operators, who cannot invest in building their own OTT services. However, there is a way to take the fast lane to OTT.
(
Virtual Press Office) - At IBC2012, Teleste will introduce Teleste Ubique, a complete multi-screen platform for easier and faster access to OTT delivery for cable operators. How to build a complete OTT service in less than two months?
Responding to the challenge OTT poses, many large European operators have built their own OTT systems. However, these projects have been very expensive and time-consuming, because operators have had to build their OTT services from ground up. Typical projects run for 12-18 months and cost even millions of euros. Medium and small-sized operators rarely have the resources to take up such projects, and OTT has been the domain of large operators. It does not have to be that way.
Teleste has put together a complete OTT solution that enables small and medium sized operators to add OTT services to their portfolio quickly and easily. With Teleste’s OTT solution, operators have a fast lane to OTT and they can build up an OTT service even in 2 months instead of 12 months - and with just a fraction of cost.
Teleste’s solution includes everything needed to set up a complete OTT service: back-end infrastructure – headends, transcoders, encryption, and management systems together with customizable end-user applications for TVs, web browsers and mobile devices such as tablet PC’s and smart phones. Operators can easily tailor the solution to fit their own brand and offering. For example, Teleste’s iPad application is delivered with source code and can easily be configured to fit a variety of operators.
Teleste’s OTT solution enables operators to manage everything centrally: they can access technologies such as DVB, IPTV, OTT, as well as services like Live TV, Catch-up, PVR, and Video on Demand. In addition, delivering services and content to TVs, computers, tablets and smart phones can be managed with the same system.
Combining best of both worlds – quickly and easily
Today, there are close to 100 million household using OTT services. That number is expected to almost triple to 285 million users by 2016 (TDG). Operators not embracing this opportunity are missing a potential revenue stream and alienating customers.
We believe that future will not be black and white. OTT and traditional TV will coexist and those cable operators, who are able to deliver both traditional and OTT services, will be successful in the marketplace.
We feel that close relationship with customers is one key advantage for the European cable TV operators. Cable operators know their customers in a market that is divided along country, language, technology and historical lines. We believe that customers will always appreciate the same things that made the cable TV operators strong in the first place: good quality HD video, a wide range of channels, simple billing transactions, and most importantly, ease of use.
So far, operating OTT services has been the domain of large operators, but now with Teleste’s OTT solution, even smaller and medium-sized operators can easily add OTT services to their offering. The winners will be those, who embrace OTT services and combine the best from both worlds.
