New App Helps Content Owners Monetise their Content

CANNES and MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF.  (October 8, 2012) (Virtual Press Office) Easel TV, the Connected TV specialists, is launching a new Connected TV app framework at MIPCOM 2012. The app is powered by Ooyala, the leader in video monetisation and discovery, PayWizard, the innovative provider of payment solutions to the digital TV industry and Loft London, an independent digital media facility. The Connected TV app framework provides an easy and cost effective entry point for rights holders to take advantage of the opportunities Connected TVs provide. The app is aimed at rights holders such as independent production companies and is based on the All3Media app that will be demonstrated in the UK Indies Pavilion, LR4 15 at MIPCOM in Cannes October 8-11.

The Connected TV framework app provides an easy pathway for content owners like All3Media to create similar direct-to-consumer apps on connected devices. The All3Media app, announced in March earlier this year, offers pay-per-view content from All3Media's archive, including hit series such as The Only Way is Essex and Midsomer Murders, to consumers in the UK.  All3Media wanted to create consumer-facing services which would generate positive revenue from sunk content assets. It was important to be able to set different price-points and to experiment with various promotions and bundles to maximize consumer choice and monetization.

The application, based on Easel TV's Suggested TV platform, provides a linear-style television experience that feels like a TV channel. Full screen video plays on the launch of the application with the programming seen by the viewer being based on editorial recommendation and algorithmic curation. The PayWizard pre-pay account is used to provide consumers with a convenient and secure e-wallet payment facility which is streamlined to enable fast transactions on a TV remote control. The Ooyala platform is used to manage content and metadata and to deliver a high-quality video playback experience with adaptive streaming.

Loft London is joining the consortium of leading media businesses who have developed this app to provide an accessible cost point for ingest, transcode, storage and digital distribution services so that  any content owner, no matter how big or small, can take advantage of the opportunity Connected TVs offer to develop a direct relationship with the consumer.
