TVE at MIPCOM 2012
Today, 11 October, has seen the closing ceremony to mark the end of the MIPCOM TV and entertainment market in Cannes, France, one of the most important events in the audiovisual sector calendar.
Televisión Española has attended this professional market in order to present its latest productions, with a special focus on Isabel, TVE's flagship historical series, which recreates the reign of Isabella I of Castile, "The Catholic", one of the most important women in Spain's history.
The interest shown in this new series thanks to its massive viewing figures in Spain (where it has led Monday prime-time ratings for three weeks running), and its stunning production values has led to firm offers being made by countries such as France, Italy, Mexico, Uruguay, Russia ,Chile, the USA, Sweden, Finland, Portugal, Greece and Turkey, as well as countries in the Near East and North Africa. In a number of other countries there are various broadcasters interested in acquiring rights to the series.
Nevertheless, the expectation surrounding Isabel has cast no shadow on the other programmes that RTVE had on offer at MIPCOM. Once again, there was great interest in Los Misterios de Laura (“Mum detective"), a prime-time police-procedural comedy aimed at all the viewing public.
Amar en Tiempos Revueltos ("Love in Difficult Times") continues to be one of the most popular series with over 1500 episodes behind it and consistently high viewing figures - the dream of any television programmer.
As far as our TVE Internacional and 24 Horas channels are concerned, ties with leading distributors in Holland, Belgium, France and Portugal have been strengthened, with new TVE projects launched for broadcasting to the non-residential market in both the Americas and Europe.
MIPCOM has reinforced TVE's presence around the world, with the first steps taken toward its programmes being shown on platforms in Indonesia and Japan.
The large number of buyers at the RTVE stand is proof of the great success that MIPCOM 2012 has represented.
